'More Mantovani Magic' DVD, Dorset – UKby Rob Howard |
![]() The famous cascading strings (as conceived by accordionist, composer and arranger Ronald Binge in the late 1940s) are heard - and seen - in all their trademark glory, to re-create the luscious trademark Mantovani sound and style. The 48-piece Mantovani Orchestra features some first rate soloists, including accordionist Eddie Hession, who perform many excellent instrumental solo passages. Those who enjoy 'light music' can now own and watch this elegant and inspirational music over and over again. The DVD, available via Amazon, has two very interesting extras: 'Mantovani Memories' - several superb quality Pathe News films of performances by the 1930s Mantovani Tipica Orchestra - featuring Ronald Binge on accordion, and 'Mantovani - Behind the Scenes' - looking back at the man himself. In the 1950s and 60s the original Mantovani Orchestra enjoyed phenomenal success around the world, especially in Britain and the USA, with over 50 best selling albums. It’s founder, Annunzio Paolo Mantovani (1905–1980), is probably more associated with the light orchestra genre than any other entertainer. |

‘Sancybérie’ French-Russian Festival, Auvergne – Franceby Holda Paoletti-Kampl |

![]() The concerts in the cities of Auvergne, Saint Sauves, Ceyrat, Perpezat, Menat, Saint-Nectaire, Messeix , Egliseneuve Entraigues, La Bourboule, Bromont-Lamothe and Le Mont-Dore were a nightly show of exceptional quality, combining music, dance and visual art. An enthusiastic public filled all the available space in various halls. The undeniable cultural link between Russia and France is the accordion, one of the most popular French and Russian folk instruments. It is therefore natural that it held a prominent place in the artistic program of the Festival 2010. Indeed, the first part of the shows were provided by French artists: the duet "Paris-Moscou" with Domi and Roman Emorine Jbanov accordion and the Quartet "3 cons 1" Domi Emorine combined with, Pierre Laval and Felicien Brut (accordion) accompanied by Thierry Moncheny (guitar). Also on stage was Sergei Nazarov with his poetry and artistic mastery. There were 16 young dancers from the collective "Vykroutassy" and 8 musicians of all instruments, plus the popular "Sybir" from distant Siberia with their rhythms and melodies of Russian and colorful folk costumes. Over 3000 spectators attended this enchanting spectacle. All left impressed eagerly awaiting the 2011 event. For further information email: duopm@sfr.fr |
