Dolce & Gabbana Fall Winter 2013 Ad Campaign Features Accordion - Italy, India & USAby Harley Jones |
![]() |
![]() Fashion Stylist and writer Khushboo of Mumbai, India writes: "I love this entire campaign, it is fun, interactive and super cute. All of them seem to be really enjoying the shoot and that works for me." For the top picture: "Loving the lace detail on the black skirt and blouse. Love the grey and black translucent dress. The attention to detail is awesome: the checkered table cloth, the food and the vase. I love the metallic detail on the accordion which reflects the lace on all the women's garments." For the side picture: "Cute pic but nothing except the bag (and the accordion - editor) is really standing out. It would have been nicer if there was something other than black in the entire picture." For the picture below: "The baroque and gold detail on the dresses of the women and the jackets of the men is pretty. But I think it looks a little cluttered in the background. The carnival theme of this picture is nice but it still seems a little overcrowded. Love the chiffon or georgette material. The heavy gold baroque work on translucent fabric looks beautiful." Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have made a trademark of their surnames which is known throughout the world, easily recognizable thanks to its glamour and great versatility. The two met in Milano in 1980 and worked for the same fashion house. In 1982 they established a designer consulting studio. In time it grew to become “Dolce & Gabbana”. They presented their first women’s collection in 1985 in Milan, and their first store opened in 1986. Their products took off internationally and today, their revenue is over 600 million dollars. |

Accordionists Honored at the 2012 Benny Awards, Auckland - New Zealandby Heather Masefield |
![]() |
On Sunday October 28th Maurice Jones, NZAA President Sonja Palinich and Heather Masefield attended the 2012 Benny Awards held at the Crowne Plaza in Auckland city. These awards are organized by the Variety Artists Club and are the highest award given to performers, musicians and artists in New Zealand. With long time New Zealand accordion performers Silvio De Pra and Toni Savage both passing away recently, the NZ accordion scene has lost the 2 former Benny winners who were accordionists. It was very nice to see the photos of Silvio De Pra and Toni Savage winning their Benny Awards in the slide show presentation of previous winners. The slide show of members that had passed away during the year also featured both Silvio and Toni and there was a big banner in honor of Silvio De Pra. Angelina & Gabriella Witten-Hannah sang 3 items during the evening, dressed as angels - and they sang like angels, too! See the picture of them and the Silvio De Pra banner. There were also several really nice tributes to Silvio De Pra during the evening. One of the organizers of this superb event was Gary Daverne, well known internationally to accordionists. The Mayor of Auckland sat briefly at our table and mentioned the New Zealand Accordion Association in his speech before presenting the 2012 Benny Award. |

Lou Coppola Trailblazes Again, George Mason University, Virginia - USAby Joan Grauman |
![]() Invited by music department chairman, Dr. Dennis Layendecker, to structure and teach this subject in a formal course setting, Lou Coppola eagerly accepted the challenge. With his decades of experience as accordionist for the United States Air Force Strolling Strings and his thousands of private engagements for civilian clients with his string groups, Lou has ample experience for the job. It's a new world for these young people, previously playing only in classical ensembles. Learning the music is only one of the student’s responsibilities. There is chart memorization, choreography strategy and in addition, one must remember to smile, engage the audience one on one and execute ensemble elements as well. While there is a lot of good humor and fun during the class time, there is also a lot of hard work. But we know it will pay off and give these young people the knowledge that will benefit them well in their future music careers. It’s exciting for a person to bookend their professional life with projects that haven’t been tried before. This quest from the trailblazer Lou Coppola is an inspiration to us all. |
