 In the academic year 2010/2011, the Applied Arts Superior School, Castelo Branco, Portugal, will offer a Masters Degree (after Licentiate) in Accordion. The study period will be for two years, and the course teacher will be Paulo Jorge Ferreira.Paulo Jorge Ferreira (born 1966, Lisbon) is an internationally renowned concert performer, lecturer, adjudicator, composer and arranger. He has performed solo concerts in France, Mexico, Belgium, Austria, Italy, Macau, Spain and Hungary, and concerts with several chamber and symphony orchestras.  Roland-USA has announced the finalists chosen to compete in the Roland-USA V-Accordion Festival, which takes place on Saturday September 18th at the Roland Corporation HQ in Los Angeles, California.The Grand Prize winner will win a Roland FR-7x accordion and a trip to Rome, Italy, to compete for the World Title on October 16th, and a prize of 5,000 Euros, at the 4th International Accordion Festival (Senior Soloist Division only). The Roland finalists are, in alphabetical order: Youth Division - Andre Fry, Johan Knoff, Hannah Jane Robbins, Kassandra Patterson, Daniel Pavlotsky Adult Division - Alicia Baker, Steven Gordon, Christopher Gorton, Svetlana Ivanchenko, Cassandra Nelson Reserves: Youth - John Moceo, Anthony Federici Adult - Alexei Bordei, Tatiana Semichastnova, Lou Fanucchi Roland is this year celebrating reaching the milestone of 10,000 V-Accordions sold worldwide since its launch in 2004. | The well established music educational institution CNIMA J.Mornet, led by Jacques Mornet and Nathalie Boucheix and based at Les Ludines, 63950 Saint-Sauves d’Auvergne, this year celebrates its 15th anniversary. From Monday September 27th to Sunday October 3rd there will be a series of concerts, dancing, dinners, and other events. Specialising in accordion training courses, CNIMA J.Mornet has provided educational opportunities since 1995 and its students have won a total of 87 prizes in international competitions. | The third evening of a week show-events organized by the Conservatoire Tchaikovsky Terinese Nocera (CZ) has been particularly dynamic and alive with the vibrant performance of the Mediterranean Jazz Duo composed of Antonio Spaccarotella (accordion) and Alberto La Neve (saxophone). A large and enthusiastic crowd enjoyed these two musicians who performed original music inspired by ethnic tango and especially jazz with a musical liberating style that is unusual with fragments, irregular rhythms, atonality and a mixture of “sounds”. This duo is successfully pursuing a concert career in Europe and received strong appreciation from the audience at the International Campus AFAM, for this event that hosted more than 300 students from other Italian Conservatories and well known music critics such as the famous Italian musicologist Guido Salvetti. The Proud director of the Conservatory, Maestro Pierfrancesco Pullia, thanked and congratulated the two musicians at the end of the concert for their splendid performance and modern project. |

| On Friday September 17th, 10pm until 2am, young Argentinean accordionist Sergio Pinget presents his new DVD in a concert at ‘Vivo Teatro IFT’, Peña Los Cardones, Jorge Luis Borges 2180, Buenos Aires. The DVD was filmed at the same theatre on October 23rd last year, and the music includes ‘La Tempranera’, ‘Merceditas’, Argentina secreta’, ‘Kilómetro 11’, ‘El tren expreso’, ‘Libertango’, and other pieces. Originally from the city of Columbus, Sergio Pinget comes from the region of Argentina where the chamamé folk music style predominates, and he grew up playing within this genre, but has since diversified into other styles. HotScotch Ceilidh Band, Monte Carlo – Monacoby Rob Howard |

 On August 28th, the HotScotch Ceilidh Band, from Edinburgh, Scotland, were invited out to play in Monte Carlo, Monaco. The band is led by Paul Chamberlain on accordion, with Christine Anderson – fiddle, and Jim Walker – drums. They were providing a Scottish ceilidh for guests on board the super-yacht ‘Christina O’, as part of a wedding celebration with a Scottish connection. It was a fantastic occasion and the ceilidh went down very well, with popular favourites such as ‘Strip the Willow’ and ‘The Eightsome Reel’, on the rear deck of the boat. Certainly a most memorable event for the band, and enjoyed by the mixture of French and Scottish guests. Their next function is in the magnificent Stirling Castle on Saturday September 4th. Jimmy Shand LP ‘Step We Gaily’ Now On CD, Scotland - UKby Rob Howard |
 The classic LP ‘Step We Gaily’ by Sir Jimmy Shand and his Band, issued in 1960 on the EMI Parlaphone label, has just been released on CD for the first time. The original recording was made during Shand’s peak years, and at the height of his fame. The tracks include: ‘Mairi's Wedding’ – Reel; ‘Jenny's Bawbee’ – Strathspey; Waltz Country Dance; ‘Miss Mary Douglas’ – Jig; ‘The Duke of Perth’ – Reel; ‘Scottish Reform’ – Jig; ‘The Braes O Tullymet’ – Strathspey; ‘Maxwell's Rant’ – Reel; ‘The Road to the Isles’ – Strathspey; ‘Machine Without Horses’ – Jig Sir Jimmy Shand (1908-2000), knighted in 1999, was arguably the most famous Scotsman of the 20th Century. He had a phenomenally successful recording career that began in 1933 and lasted over 60 years, and came to personify Scottish dance music around the world.  Russian accordionist Evelina Petrova performs in concert on Thursday September 9th, 7.30pm, at Puskin House, 5a Bloomsbury Square, London WC1 2TA.Evelina Petrova studied at the St Petersburg Conservatory. From 1997 Evelina played in a duo with V. Gayvoronsky (trumpet). In October 1998 at the 5th International Competition devoted to Astor Piazzolla in Castelfidardo, Italy, the duo won a special prize for original music style. | “A Valtaro Celebration Remembering Gelso Pellegrini”, an event sponsored by the American Accordionists' Association, takes place on Saturday, September 11th, 12 noon – 5pm, at the Magnanini Farm Winery, 172 Strawridge Road, Wallkill, NY 12589. Gelso Pellegrini was a Board Member of the AAA. He was born in New York city and during his lifelong accordion career, he recorded about 50 of his compositions in addition to Val Taro Musette Music.  The jazz ensemble ‘Spirit of Django’, led by guitarist Martin Taylor and featuring accordionist Jack Emblow, conclude their tour to celebrate the 100th birthday of the great gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt, as follows: The ‘Spirit of Django’ tour also features promotion of a new CD, ‘Last Train To Hauteville’. Jack Emblow (born 1930) has played with ‘Spirit of Django’ since 1994, and is considered by many to be Britain’s leading jazz accordionist. He is also a prolific session musician, performing on the soundtracks of countless films, TV programmes, and the recordings of numerous artistes, including Elton John, Grace Jones, Donovan, The Strawbs, Peter Sarstedt, and the Beatles. Cavagnolo, now trading under the name Cava-France and based in Beynost, 15km east of Lyon, has been manufacturing accordions since 1904.  I own a Silvio Marotta accordion which i purchased in 1950. It is 120 bass with 4 shift registers on the bass and 21 shift registers on the keyboard. It is in fabulous shape. I am thinking of selling it and cannot seem to find any information on the Marotta brand.If someone can help with information i would really appreciate it.
