 The 34th annual Castelfidardo event runs from 13th to 18th October.  During the forthcoming "Citta di Castelfidardo 2009" festival, October 14th to 18th, accordion soloists Anna Katharina Schau and Doreen Babin from Klingenthal (Castelfidardo’s sister city) will present best wishes from their hometown. Both players have received, as a special award during the 46th International Accordion Competition Klingenthal 2009, a concert invitation to perform during the competition in the Italian twin town.Anne Catherine Schau won first place in the “Kleinen Tagen der Harmonika” in Klingenthal, and the German accordion music prize. The musical training of the 14-year-old student is under the guidance of Traude Hepfner at the Music School in Flöha. Doreen Babin, from Leubsdorf, is this year's German accordion music award and other competitions winner. She participated in the 46th International Accordion Competition 2009 in the category 6, Virtuoso Entertainment Music. Their repertoire consists mainly of musettes, tango and folklore music. For the "Citta di Castelfidardo 2009" both will be seen on stage in a concert as accordion soloists and they will also be competitors. |
Bill Wilkie’s Diamond Jubilee Festival, Perth – UKby Rob Howard |
 The 60th All Scotland Accordion & Fiddle Championships, organised by Bill Wilkie MBE, take place in Perth, Scotland, on October 31st. Competitions for the various accordion and fiddle sections begin at 9am in the concert hall and other local venues, and the contest for the All Scotland Senior Accordion Championship takes place during the evening. This year, to mark the diamond jubilee of this festival, there will be two grand variety concerts. The Saturday evening concert stars Pearl Fawcett-Adriano (left), plus a supporting cast that includes accordionists Jimmy Cassidy and Craig Paton. On Sunday afternoon, The Alexander Brothers will top a bill that also features accordionists Michael Philip and Alex McIntyre, and their Scottish dance bands. Both shows will feature the Bill Wilkie Accordion Orchestra, plus the Sandra Wright and Julie Young dancing teams.  The 10th Las Vegas International Accordion Convention takes place from October 19th to 23rd at the Gold Coast Hotel and Casino, 4000 West Flamingo Road, Las Vegas, Nevada. Artists appearing this year include Art Van Damme, Dick Contino, Gina Brannelli, Pete Barbutti, Peter Soave and Mady Soave, Pete Contino, Stas Venglevski, Silvia Marie, Mario Tacca and Mary Mancini, and Michael Bridge. The Las Vegas International Accordion Orchestra will rehearse and perform, directed by Joan Cochran Sommers. The festival includes teaching workshops, led by Ron Borelli, Gordon Kohl, Mary Tokarski, and others. There will also be a trade exhibition area.  On Saturday October 17th, 7.30pm, Akkorde - On - Stage presents Professor Vladimir Zubitsky (Kiev, Ukraine) in concert on his Bayan accordion. The concert takes place in the Musikerheim der TMK, Leopoldskron-Moos, Schwarzgrabenweg 1b, 5020 Salzburg. Admission is €17 – adults, €13 / €6 – children, and the organiser is Dominik Leitner of Akkorde - On - Stage. Yuri Shishkin Concerts and Masterclass – France, Polandby Alexander Poeluev |
 Well-known accordion artist Yuri Shishkin from Rostov-on-Don, Russia, recently made concerts in France in the cities of Saint-Savinien and Surgeres. He performed a solo program and also duets with the famous French accordionist Elodie Soulard. On October 6-7, Yuri Shishkin will hold master classes at the Warsaw Conservatory, Poland and on 9th October he will perform a concert in Vilanov Palace, Warsaw. ‘Filochards’ New CD Release, Lille – Franceby Rob Howard |
 The band Filochards, based in Calais, has released a CD, titled ‘Filochards’, featuring mainly songs with a theme of social consciousness.Filochards’ line-up includes Thibault Dille – accordion, Claude Vadasz – vocals and acoustic guitar, Joachim Wannyn – vocals, David Laisné - clavier and accordion, Alexis Thérain – electric guitar, Nicolas Mahieux – bass, and Charles Duytschaever – drums. Accordionist Alejandro Barcelona is one of several session musicians also contributing to the recordings. On October 17th, 5pm, the band will perform numbers from their new CD at the church of Saint-Sauveur, boulevard JB Lebas, Lille. |

"duoRETRO" specialise in French and Italian music.  The annual International Accordion Festival takes place from October 9th to 11th at La Villita Historic Arts Village, S. Alamo St., E. Nueva, San Antonio, Texas. Admission is free.Guest performers at this year's festival include Joel Guzman & Sarah Fox, Jaime Y los Chamacos, Mingo Saldivar y los Cuatro Espadas, Buckwheat Zydeco, The Ivan Milev Band, Miguel Afonso y su Grupo, Georges Lammam Ensemble, Guy Klucevsek, Daniel Diaz & Lia Davis, The Zydepunks, Jo Miller & Her Burly Roughnecks, and Hugh Morrison & Lonestar Stout.
