![]() The composition, originally written for Ivan Vyrypaev’s film ‘Oxygen’, was nominated and awarded in the category ‘Best Film Music’ at the XX Open All-Russia film festival ‘Kinotavr’ (Sochi, 2009). The music is a brilliant potpourri on themes of ABBA, the Beatles, from films ‘Circus’, ‘Euphoria’, as well as the compositions of Shnitke and Piazzolla, which were also were included in the programme. The musicians participating were: Aydar Gainullin (bayan, accordina & bandoneon), Borislav Strulev (cello), ?rtem Dervoed (guitar), Sergey Shamov (cajon), Pavel Novikov (bansuri), and the Russian Kamerata Chamber orchestra. ![]() The Quintet are performing a tribute to the music of Nino Rota who wrote the music to many well-known films such as ‘The Godfather’, ‘The Legend of the Glass Mountain’, ‘La Dolce Vita’, as well as many other movies directed by Federico Fellini. This concert is part of the London Jazz Festival. Richard Galliano recently released a ‘Tribute to Nino Rota’ CD on the Deutsche Grammophon label, paying homage to the music of Nino Rota (1911-79), whose centenary is celebrated this year. Peter Gerter (accordion/bayan) together with his daughters Anja Gerter (violin) and Maria (piano) have been performing as a very successful trio since 2001. Their repertoire includes works of the 20th century by Debussy, Shostakovitch, Stravinsky, Piazzolla, and others. They have had concert tours in Germany, Holland, Italy, and France. In October 2005 the trio won 1st prize at the international competition in Castelfidardo, Italy, and published their first CD ‘Soledad’ the same year. Peter Gerter achieved his musical education in the famous class of Friedrich Lips at the Gnessin Academy in Moscow and is one Europe’s leading accordionists. He started his career as a teacher in Vladivostok before coming to Germany with his family in 1994. Herbert Scheibenreif invited them to an Austrian tour including concerts in St. Andrä, Klagenfurt, Neunkirchen, Hochegg, Rottenmann, Graz, and Leobendorf (near Vienna). ![]() Several of his advanced students also gave performances to demonstrate these teaching techniques. Radu Laxgang (CMA & CIA Junior Variety winner 2010) and Dorin Grama (CMA Senior Variety winner 2011) from Moldavia played pieces from their winning variety programs. Grayson Masefield (winner of CMA & CIA Classical and Variety) performed classical repertoire including the new Petri Makkonen composition Tango-Toccata (winner of the Coupe Mondiale Special Award for New Works 2011, performed by Pavel Zyabko) which Grayson premiered earlier this year during the Montrond Les Bains competition, in France. Also for the first time there was a demonstration of the newest Hohner midi product. Olivier Selac showed the audience the capabilities of this new midi system which can be installed on a acoustic or reedless instrument. He demonstrated the possibilities of the new midi sounds, drum tracks and other features including acoustic microphones that incorporate changeable reverb, delay and also supports midi and mp3 files. ![]() Additionally, Campbell Thwaites is the Deputy Head Boy of Hawera High, and also finds time to play tennis, cricket and soccer for his school teams as well as tennis and soccer with local sports clubs. Campbell has been taught by Lyn Waite of Hawera, Rebekah Greig of Wellington, and currently travels for lessons to Sydney with Tania Lukic-Marx on a semi-regular basis. Campbell Thwaites is certainly an inspiration to school age accordionists around the world. |

![]() FEDERAL SERVICE CROSS FOR ACCORDIONIST - GERMANY Contributed by Hartmut Lange from the Newspaper Intermusik Internationally renowned accordionist Elsbeth Moser (Professor at the Hanover Conservatory), was awarded the Federal Service Cross in October. Roman Herzog (Bundes President) presented the Order of Merit at a ceremonial act at the Schloss Bellevue, Berlin, on October 3rd, the German National reunification holiday. In the laudatio he said that Elsbeth Moser, who celebrated her 25th year of service this year (2 years in Trossingen and 23 years in Hanover), played a major role in bringing accordion works closer to the musically interested public. She also works for the competition "Jugend musiziert" and in the Deutsche Musikrat (German musical society). |

The Stockport Accordion Club Band & Orchestra have two concerts next week. The first of these is on Friday November 18th, 7.30pm, at St George’s Church, Church St, Hyde, Cheshire SK14 1JL. There will be refreshments available at the interval plus a raffle. Proceeds go to the Willow Wood Hospice. The Accordionaires Orchestra will present a concert on Tuesday November 15th, 7pm, at Victorio's Ristorante, 10901 Victory Blvd (at Vineland), North Hollywood, CA. (818-762-9000). The Los Angeles based Accordionaires Orchestra was founded in 1996 by former members of FOTA (Friends of the Accordion). Within the next 18 months the first Accordionaires Ensemble was organized by Paul LaVoe and Pat Striplin. The original members of the group included Paul Carr, Woody Tracey, Joe Blasco, Bill Maxwell, Paul Scafeddi, Pat Striplin, Matt Jacobs, and Paul LaVoe as the Director. In November 1999 Paul LaVoe became seriously ill and Pat Striplin took over as director. Pat also served as Club President and newsletter editor. In April 2000, Tony Lovello performed for the Accordionaires as a guest artist. Carl and Janet Hane, two long time friends of Tony came for the event and later joined the Club. 2001 Carl Hane became Director and Janet Hane joined the ensemble as well. Carl Hane passed away February 2004. Pat Striplin temporarily took the baton until Janet Hane became MD later that year. Since then the Ensemble has become the Accordionaires Orchestra with 20 performing members. Janet Hane, accordion performer and teacher is the conductor of The Accordionaires Orchestra. Currently residing in Westlake Village, California, Janet is busy with a continuous schedule of professional solo appearances, private lessons and master classes. ![]() He appears with the Trondheim Soloists in the opening concert on Friday November 18th,7pm, at St Paul’s Hall, playing a new work by HCMF Composer in Residence Bent Sørensen. Born in 1975, Frode Haltli studied at the Norwegian State Academy of Music, then at the Royal Danish Music Conservatory. With his fellow Poing members Rolf-Erik Nystrøm and Håkon Thelin, he is an artistic director of this year’s Ultima contemporary music festival, which takes place in Oslo in September. His other current projects include recording the first CD compilation of Arne Nordheim’s accordion music. Most recently Frode collaborated with Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart to perform Naomi Pinnock’s Oscillare in 2010; previously Frode Haltli has been featured both as a soloist and as part of the group Poing. |

The official online streaming page of Frédéric Deschamps, the Deschamps Channel, is now becoming a premium channel. This means that there will now be no advertisements interrupting live feeds and all new events are now streamed directly live with no time delay between the recording and streaming. Also future recordings will include a higher quality option that audience members with greater internet bandwidth can choose to view for a better experience. On the Deschamps Channel on the 25th November at 6.30pm (GMT+1) there will be a live interactive master class on this month’s pedagogical article in the French magazine ‘Accordeon & Accordeonistes’. It will be held in French, but questions on the chat can be answered in English, Spanish & Italian.
