![]() |
![]() The first concert opened by the Deputy Mayor of Loreto featured Danilo Di Paolonicola, Mirco Patarini and Mario D'Amario and the event was sponsored by Scandalli Accordions, Paolo Soprani and Roland Europe. The program of each player was varied and really showed a huge range of musical styles that the diatonique, concert and digital accordions, in the hands of professionals, is capable of. A very enjoyable concert to start the 'Before Festival' concert series and festival promotions. Further pictures of this concert will be place online this weekend at: 2012 Concorso |

‘14 Years Ago’ – Enter the concertinaby Rob Howard |
![]() ![]() Wheatstone was one of several Europeans who experimented with the Chinese imported sheng, resulting in the invention of such instruments as the concertina, bandoneon, harmonica, harmonium, and, of course, the accordion. We should all be thankful for their efforts and ingenuity. SCIENCE AND CONCERTINAS - UK Contributed by Chris Timson A new series of the popular science program ‘Local Heroes’ has just started on BBC 2 (UK). The October 5th edition has a segment devoted to Charles Wheatstone, inventor of the concertina and is mostly set in the computer games shop in Gloucester where he was born. Chris Timson was asked to provide consultancy for the show and he also provided the concertinas shown in the broadcast. Of particular interest is the symphonium, loaned by Colin Dipper. The symphonium is the direct predecessor of the concertina, and Chris believes there are no more than 20 left in the world. |
