20th Annivesary, Conservatorio di Musica Luigi Cherubini, Florence - Italyby Holda Paoletti-Kampl |
![]() |
![]() This established a Chair of Accordion and a degree course similar to the other instruments at the important Florentine institution. Ivano Battiston (picture above) was the founder and is still holder of the academic chair. Florence and Pesaro were the two cities to obtain the first accordion chairs in Italy. This achievement with important Italian music institutions rewarded the work of many musicians and teachers, who were promoting the concert accordion. It is to these teachers that this event extends a most heartfelt tribute. From 2pm there was a display by the Accordion Museum Castelfidardo and the famous collection fidardense.L introduced by Ivano Paterno, of the Conservatory of Castelfranco, Veneto. At 4pm, there was a Tribute to the Fathers of the Italian Accordion public meeting coordinated by Beniamino Bugiolacchi and Ivano Battiston, in which the speakers remembered the past and some ideas for the future. The concert, at 6pm, titled ‘Accordion: past, present and future’, involved by invitation some names that have and are still making the history of this instrument, as Gervasio Marcosignori (absent for family reasons), Paolo Gandolfi, Romano Benetello, Ivano Paterno, Caberlotto Roberto, Gilberto Meneghin, Francesco Gesualdi, Pietro Adragna and Ivano Battiston. ‘14 Years Ago’ – Maurice Larcange and Pascal Contet Join Forcesby Rob Howard |
![]() ![]() Maurice Larcange (1927-2007) was both an internationally famous star of musette music and the founder of an accordion school that has produced a large number of star performers. Pascal Contet is still a very active concert accordionist and teacher. DANGER AND TRAPS - FRANCE Contributed by Frédéric Deschamps On October 31st and November 1st, master classes were held by two entirely different performers with almost opposite repertoires: Maurice Larcange, the ‘Musette Star’ and Pascal Contet, a specialist in contemporary music. The two classes took place in a new school run by Jérôme Richard and Frédéric Deschamps in Paris, as a way of inaugurating the school. Maurice Larcange shared his professional experience by covering on-stage behaviour, choosing a pseudonym, dangers and traps of the profession, information about the many works composed by him, and advice on album recording. Pascal Contet incites and provokes composers to write works for the accordion. During his masterclass, students shared his ‘Techno-Electro-Acoustical’ experiences, and had a taste of improvisation by creating an ensemble piece. The entire weekend proved full of surprises. |
