A Meeting With Ennio Morricone, Pesaro - Italyby Holda Paoletti-Kampl |
![]() |
A delegation from the Museum Castelfidardo, composed of President Vincenzo Canali (photo left), Beniamino Bugiolacchi (not pictured) and Mirco Patarini (photo right), went to meet Ennio Morricone (photo center) in Pesaro, before his concert in that city. The celebrated artist and composer, who has achieved worldwide recognition and many prestigious awards for his film sound tracks, which number over 400, received the delegation warmly and gratefully received the Paolo Soprani accordion presented to him by Mirco Patarini. The great maestro was very curious and interested and asked many questions of the delegates. He was keen to know of the economic and productive situations of this popular instrument and of the treasures of the museum. They were keen to promote the use of the accordion in any of Morricone’s future projects and offered any help that may be needed. The use of the free reed instrument would reprise a collaboration of many years ago that Morricone had with an arrangement of a Wolmer Beltrami song, ‘La fisarmonica’, made successful by Gianni Morandi. In the interest of future developments Ennio Morricone invited Bugiolacchi, Canali and Patarini as his guests to the Pesaro concert, which sold out all 15,000 tickets. |

INTERMUSIK is History, 18 years INTERMUSIK Final Editorial - Germanyby Harley Jones |
![]() On July 1, 1992, the Intermusik editorial staff was officially brought into being although the newspaper’s founder and music publisher, Ulrich Schmülling, had already started preparing for this project some months before. Left is a picture of the first edition of Intermusik in October 1992. Around 3,400 pages of text and pictures have recorded the history of the accordion and harmonica world in the time spanning that and this last edition. In book format there would have been around 13,700 pages. With this background of success, Intermusik's founder and publisher, Prof. Ulrich Schmülling, decided to take a decisive step: ceasing Intermusik as a newspaper publication with the July 2010 issue. This was a great surprise for the entire accordion world, as well as for subscribers and advertisers. “Nevertheless, in my opinion the time had come for Intermusik to take its leave from this form of publication. As is well known, a person should stop when everything is going well and not when it is necessary. I have not made the decision due to an emergency or any other necessity, but simply following my free conviction and inner feelings, just as I once founded the publication,” Ulrich Schmülling declared. Over the years, Ulrich Schmülling has received considerable awards and public recognition for his many years of contribution to the harmonica and the accordion including in 2005 receiving the prestigious Confédération Internationale des Accordéonistes (CIA) Merit Award. Ulrich Schmülling will be increasing his involvement with his high quality publishing company Karthause Schmülling Musik und Medien Deutschland. The final 18 Years Editorial includes substantial historical information about the Intermusik newspaper and and also a very interesting historical article about bayan development in Western Europe. Thanks to Ulrich Schmülling for the permission to publish and Willoughby Ann Walshe for translating. 18 Years Editorial is in English and German languages. |

‘14 Years Ago’ – Heather’s “Birthday Party with a Difference…”by Rob Howard |
![]() CHRISTMAS CAROL BIRTHDAY PARTY - AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND Contributed by Harley Jones Well known accordion teacher Heather Masefield had a birthday party with a difference on the 17th of December. All the guests sang Christmas Carols outside under the stars to the accompaniment of accordionists Harley and Maurice Jones (Heather's brothers), several young pupils of Heathers, and on keyboard the famous composer and arranger Gary Daverne. I wonder what the neighbours thought of this large 60 plus person impromptu choir, serenading their street, sipping champagne and enthusiastically singing Silent Night! A good time was certainly had by all the guests if not the neighbours. |
