The 2015 China Shenzhen International Accordion Art Festival includes a major international accordion competition and the competition categories and rules and full information will be released soon at: www.accordions.com/china/shenzhen/ The Art Festival also includes concerts, mass performances, master classes and high forums on developing accordion art and industry etc. The city of Shenzhen is a most attractive destination. Shenzhen is a major modern city with a pleasant climate, close to Hong Kong and Guangzhou International Airports giving excellent price airfare choices from most countries with convenient domestic transport to Shenzhen. The 2015 1st China Shenzhen International Accordion Art Festival will be held in a modern international level concert hall with excellent acoustics and lighting so performances will never sound better. The concert hall is directly across the street from a quality hotel with reasonable accommodation prices. There will also be an accommodation allowance available to foreign competitors in the international accordion competition. In 2014, the China Accordion Association and the Shenzhen Province Accordion Association hosted the 2014 Hohner Cup China Accordion Competition in Shenzhen which included the Guinness World Record for Largest Accordion Ensemble of 1,361 accordionists all playing together. 2014Guinness |

![]() Pino Di Modugno with the accordion, his sons Nando (guitar), Vito (a true virtuoso of piano and Hammond organ), his nephew Vito Jr (bass) and Mino Petruzzelli (drums). The orchestra was directed by Cettina Donato a famous Sicilian musician. Pino played magically, in his usual extraordinary way, thrilling the audience with his varied repertoire which included a number of well-known songs, like the tangos by Piazzolla, some "evergreen" pop music and popular accordion repertoire such as Dizzy Fingers and Tico Tico. The 700 strong audience included the owner of Beltuna Accordions Arnaldo Mengascini and his wife (picture left), who presented a new accordion as a gift to Pino Di Modugno. This new instrument (Beltuna Spirit model) was made especially for Pino Di Modugno, who immediately used it for the rest of the concert. (music-sheets of Pino Di Modugno available by Wurzburger Musikverlag) Another special guest present that evening was the Director of the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome who was one of the first students of Pino Di Modugno and is today a great friend. He arrival was a very pleasant surprise! |

![]() The rules for the international categories closely follow the rules of the Coupe Mondiale. The South Pacific international concert music category has exactly the same rules as the Coupe Mondiale Masters category and the South Pacific entertainment category has exactly the same rules as the Coupe Mondiale Virtuoso Entertainment category. Junior (under 18 years) South Pacific categories require the first round of the Coupe Mondiale Junior concert and entertainment categories. Entry closing date is 12th April 2015. NZAA President Sonja Palinich writes: “The NZAA has staged this event since 1972 and we are delighted to once again have the use of the Raye Freedman Arts Centre (picture below). ![]() Renee de la Prade, the producer, writes, “This year's calendar is the best one yet; the first year we've had a Brazilian artist (Adriana Sanchez); and the first time I get to collaborate with a celebrated fantasy novelist (Peter S. Beagle) to produce a song together for the album. The calendar is also very sleek-looking because it's ad-free this year. I love the CD and I love our art. There will be a small shipping charge too, $6 in the U.S. and $12 in foreign countries. (That's for the 5 calendar deal. ![]() As accordionist, she performed with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestram with Mauricio Kagel and with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. Marieke has played as a soloist in the following ensembles: the New Ensemble during the Gaudeamus Music Week conducted by Otto Tausk, the Asko-Schoenberg Ensemble. Talking about theaters and musicals, Marieke is often being asked in various productions including The Appel, Stella Den Haag, Artemis Den Bosch and musical theatergroup Hollands Diep. She has worked with the following directors: Geert de Jong, David Geysen, Frans Weisz, Hans van den Boom, Cilia Hogerzijl and Floor Huygen. In December 2014, Marieke Grotenhuis is engaged with the recordings of some new pieces by Anke Brouwer for a new CD but you can see her back on stage from January 2015! |

The Accordions Worldwide news for the week ending December 15th 2000 included news from Amsterdam of an accordion club holding a meal and concert open to all residents in their locality. What a great way to dispense the spirit of Christmas and promote the accordion at the same time. ‘Christmas for the Neighbourhood’ – Netherlands Contributed by Hillebrand van der Veen The Amsterdam Accordion Club Forzando will hold a ‘Christmas for the Neighbourhood’ concert on December 17th in Buurthuis De Rietwijker, Amsterdam Noord, organized by both Forzando and the management team of De Rietwijker. The event aims to encourage the public to join in the Christmas festivities and enjoy a buffet meal. The orchestra will perform a special Christmas program. |

On Friday December 19th the Craven Accordion Orchestra (MD Harry Hinchcliffe) will be hosting another of the very popular Club Nights at Crosshills Social Club, raising funds for the North Central Area Accordion Championships and Yorkshire music festival. The evening starts at 7.30pm and will have a host of artists performing, including Thom Hardaker on his return from Russia and many who have been successful at the recent area festival held in Bingley. The 200 club draw that raises on-going capital for the festival will be in evidence and also a raffle again proceeds to the festival funds which is organised by the Craven Accordion Orchestra. Admission is free. The Craven Accordion Orchestra UK Champions 2014 will be performing at the Club Night with a varied programme of repertoire used in concerts and seasonal music.
