 It’s time for the 2009 Frankfurt Musikmesse, Germany, and as usual Roland won't miss this important appointment for the musical world, from April 1st to 4th. Even in these tough economic times Roland has prepared exciting surprises for all their fans. Starting with the wider booth (Halle 3.1 Stand F-17) with a larger demo cabin increasing the number of demonstrators (from 3 to 5) for amazing V-Accordion demonstrations. Roland’s revolutionary V-Accordion has improved since its debut in 2004. The digital-modelling concept has grown in popularity around the world, as well as the need for more V-Accordion models. Starting from the flagship FR-7, Roland has developed different models, the most recent being the new lightweight FR-1, enhancing V-Accordion power in the hands of students, beginners and keyboard players! At Halle 3.1 you will have the possibility to see and try the whole V-Accordion line-up - from the flagship models to the most compact and ultra-light ones. Moreover you can join the demos that will take place every day in the comfortable demo cabin. You will be delighted by Ludovic Beier’s (picture right) jazz while playing FR-7b, FR-1b models. Sergio Scappini (picture top middle) will perform classical music with the FR-7, Zoe Tigounouria (picture left), the latest artiste joining the V-Accordion family, will let you discover the elegance of the FR-7 and FR-2, while Anton Sauprügl (picture top left) will let you enjoy traditional German songs with the FR-2 and FR-7… and then Ameliè Castel (picture top right)! The winner of the 1st edition of the V-Accordion Festival, who will perform with the FR-1b. Roland is firing on all cylinders. And we know you are not surprised! |

 Hohner is proud to present the 6 times world champion Julien ‘Speedy’ Gonzales and the world champion Grayson Masefield performing at the Hohner booth during the Frankfurt Musikmesse from April 1st to 4th. Renowned for their captivating and charismatic performances of both classical and entertainment music, Julien and Grayson will play daily at the Hohner Stand and twice at the Acoustic Stage. Julien performs on the Genius IV 120 Bayan Convertor accordion and on Fun Flash while Grayson performs on the Fun Flash piano accordion. Performances at the Hohner Stand, Hall 3.1 G25. Kilfenora Ceili Band Centenary, Co Clare - Irelandby Rob Howard |

| A unique event in music and social history will take place in County Clare, Ireland from April 23rd to 26th, when the centenary will be celebrated of the Kilfenora Ceili Band. Few musical ensembles can claim a hundred years of history – and indeed the Kilfenora has its origins in a village fife & drum band stretching back into the 1870s. Contributing to its uniqueness are its roots in a web of local families who have supplied many of its members over the century. Also unique is the KCB’s feat of winning at the All Ireland Fleadh Cheoil three years running on two occasions: 1954-6 and 1993-5. The festival will run from Thursday April 23rd to Sunday April 26th in Kilfenora. The events include a céilí with the Four Courts band – featuring several past players of the KCB; a céilí with the Kilfenora band itself, in the hall that past members helped to build in 1954; a lecture by band-member Garry Shannon on the history of the band and various concerts.  Jorge Ferreira's newest CD features the diatonic accordion (known somewhat confusingly in Portuguese as the concertina) plus vocals. This CD, ‘Jorge Ferreira Celebrando 30 Anos de Carreira’ is a compilation of recordings, in the folk/pop category, made since the 1970s.Jorge Ferreira is a Portuguese-American singer/songwriter who is among the top 20 artistes in Portugal, with an amazingly successful career that includes dozens of gold and platinum records.  Alexander Poeluev was a guest artist at the ‘Fresh Wind’ Festival, Oosterpoort on February 28th. This festival included masterclasses by Nihad Hrustanbegovic and Alexander Poeluev. That evening, Alexander Poeluev made a very successful 1 hour concert, receiving 5 standing ovations from the extremely enthusiastic audience. Other festival performers include Nederlands Jeugd Accordeon Ensemble, Larissa Groeneveld and Janne Rättyä, Brouwer's Accordeon Ensemble, Gertie Bruin and Theo Bodewits, Nihad Hrustanbegovic, Nederlands Accordeon Ensemble, Otine van Erp, Marc Pantus and Oleg Fateev, Sébastien Bertran and Alain Pennec. |
Janusz Zukowski Concert, Stockport – UKby Rob Howard |
 Janusz Zukowski, from Leeds, was the guest at Stockport Accordion Club, Cheshire, on March 11th, making a long awaited return visit. Jan’s brilliant playing brought the audience to its feet following an exciting and dynamic performance that included ‘Preludio’ (A. Volpi), Liszt’s ‘Hungarian Rhapsody No 2’, ‘Trieste Overture’ (P. Deiro), ‘Jolly Caballero’ (Frosini), ‘Poet and Peasant Overture’ (von Suppe), ‘Scherzo’ (J. Gart), ‘Czardas’ (Monti), ‘Czardas’ (Fugazza), and the ‘Sabre Dance’ – to name but a few! He also did some impromptu duets with concertina ace John Nixon, switching the style completely with ‘Besame Mucho, ‘The Shadow of Your Smile’, and ‘Jealousy’. Jan’s playing left the audience breathless, and wanting more. Others contributing to a memorable evening included Rob Howard and John Jones, Justin Ryan, Kesia Leatherbarrow, Ray Peacock, John Higham, and Ann Parker. Janusz Zukowski was NAO All Britain Virtuoso Champion in 1968 and 1969, and competed in the 1969 Coupe Mondiale in New York, placed 8th.  The annual Minnesota State Polka Festival takes place, March 27th to 29th, at the Medina Entertainment Center Ballroom, Minnesota.   After a residency at the Cultuurecentrum, Bruges, where they recorded their first CD, the duo Thibault Dille (accordion - picture left), and Alexis Thérain (guitar - picture right), give their first concert, on Wednesday April 1st at the in the form of a showcase to the Club de Werf, Bruges. This will be an opportunity to hear their new repertoire and meet these jazz musicians. On May 20th and 28th the duo performs at the Maison Wazemmes, Lille, France, and in September they are guests at the Carrefour Mondial de l'Accordéon, Montmagny, Québec, Canada. |
