Some of Ken Hopkins’ Stolen Accordions Recovered!, Northern Ireland – UK

by Harley Jones
Some of Ken Hopkins’ Stolen Accordions Recovered
'Vintage Accordions' Book by Rob HowardIn August this year, 30 rare and valuable accordions plus a motor home were stolen from the home of the well-known accordion collector Ken Hopkins, who lives in Comber, County Down, Northern Ireland. An extensive search and publicity campaign followed.

We are happy to report that 12 of the accordions have just been recovered by the police in County Meath in the Irish Republic, following a tip off. The accordions had been left for a short time in a field, hidden under a tarpaulin. Some are slightly damaged. The Irish police believe the thieves to be a professional gang operating from Dublin.

News of the recovery was covered on RTE TV, BBC TV, and Ulster Television news broadcasts, several radio stations and newspapers, with most featuring interviews with a relieved and very happy Ken Hopkins.

A number of accordions from the Ken Hopkins collection are in the popular, just reprinted book 'Vintage Accordions' - an illustrated history of the accordion with over 300 color pictures of all types of accordions plus text and articles written by Rob Howard.

‘Run For Your Wife’ (Movie) – UK

by Rob Howard
‘Run For Your Wife’ (Movie)
‘Run For Your Wife’ is a UK-made 2012 comedy film, based on the theatre farce ‘Run For Your Wife’, written and directed by Ray Cooney, and starring Danny Dyer, Denise Van Outen, and Sarah Harding. The plot involves London cab driver John Smith, with two wives, two lives and a very precise schedule for juggling them both.

Trouble brews when Smith is mugged and ends up in hospital, where both of his addresses surface, causing the police from two stations to investigate. Smith becomes hopelessly entangled in his attempts to explain himself to his wives and two suspicious police officers.

The accordion factor? Over 80 celebrities, including Rolf Harris, make cameo appearances, donating their fees to a theatrical charity. Rolf Harris is a busker, seen playing a 1920s Casali piano accordion (rebuilt and tuned by Alan Young), loaned by The Accordion Shop, Sunningdale, Berkshire.

‘Run For Your Wife’ is released in cinemas in the UK on February 14th 2013.

Identifying my accordian

by | Modify | Delete
I have a nice accordian in it's case, that was given to me by my step father. It is a red marble color w/ black bellows and white base below keys. It has only one Name on it, and no other markings anywhere else. It has what I believe to be the words Pocmob Doh. Any help in finding out age and maker would be great. Possibly a value? Can send a photo later.
