| The 59th Trophée Mondial de l'Accordéon is being held in Albufeira, Portugal from the 23rd to 26th September 2009. Daily Reports and results will be on the Confédération Mondiale de l'Accordéon (CMA) website. This is the 6th time that the Trophée Mondial has been held in Portugal and the first time to be held in Albufeira. Aníbal Freire Technical/Artistic Director of 59th Trophée Mondial wishes to thank the Albufeira City Hall for their strong support and sponsorship of this event.  On Sunday September 20 at the prestigious Tavern on the Green, Terrace Room in Central Park New York, the American Accordionists’ Association (AAA) proudly presented the Lifetime Achievement Award to Faithe Deffner for her extraordinary contributions to the accordion world.As well as the presentations, there was a major concert including The Busso Trio, Beverly Roberts Curnow, Karen Fremar, Guy Klucevsek, Dee Langley, Alexander Poeluev - 2004 Coupe Mondiale Champion from Russia, Dr. William Schimmel, Mary Tokarski, the Frank Busso Jr. Trio. Li Li wins Margaret Chalmers $3,000 Scholarship - Australiaby Zeljko Bedic |
 Li Li, has been successful in reaching the final and ultimately winning the $3000 Music Teachers' Association of NSW, Margaret Chalmers Memorial Scholarship. Li entered this instrumentalist scholarship competition on the Accordion and had to perform two pieces of contrasting styles in the 2009 MTA Scholarships Showcase Concert. Li's category was of an extremely high standard of competition. There was such a buzz around the theatre when Li got onto the stage with the accordion. Li Li received a rapturous round of applause. It was a wonderful afternoon of musical entertainment featuring some of the finest young musicians, including pianists, cellists, flautists and contemporary and operatic vocalists, who competed for some outstanding prize money. Li Li won the largest prize for a solo performance. What fantastic exposure this was for the accordion. Li Li has already completed her AMusA on the Accordion with Distinction, has nearly completed her piano AMusA, works full time as a pharmacist and has recently completed her pharmacy exams, not to mention, she sat for the Sydney University medicine entrance exams. A very multi-talented young lady. |

6th Bristol Cajun & Zydeco Festival! - UKby Harley Jones |

| In spite of Royal Mail strikes causing minor problems, some of the events have already sold out for the 6th Bristol Cajun & Zydeco Festival. The event runs from Friday 16th to Sunday 18th October 2009 at the Folk House in Bristol, BS1 5JG). This year's international line-up consists of Cajun Roosters (Germany / UK / Holland), Cajun Dawgs, The Downtown Cajun Band (Holland), The Whiskey River Boys, Petite et la Grosse and Z-Funk, with top class cajun and zydeco dance tuition from Carol Wilson and Kay Anderson. In addition there will be jam sessions and a late night venue for further dancing and jamming. The licensed bar will be open throughout the day and cajun and home cooked food will be available at meal times. Movie Opportunity For Young Male Accordionist - Scotlandby Rob Howard |
 Casting director Mr.O'Connor is looking for a young male accordion player between the ages of fourteen and twenty to star as the lead in an exciting new Scottish feature film which will shoot in America next year. The screenplay is called 'Dirt Road to Lafayette' and is written by Booker prize winner James Kelman (pictured left) and will be directed by multi award winning director Kenny Glenaan. Over the next few months O'Connor will be searching Scotland to audition as many talented young male players as possible. Previous acting experience is not a requirement.  The 34th International Accordion Competition and Festival in Castelfidardo taking place from Tuesday 13th to Sunday 18th October, will have the great privilege of hosting two Jazz seminars by famous Jazz exponent and teacher Renzo Ruggieri.There will be 12 participants for each workshop plus a maximum of 60 viewers attending. The first workshop entitled "Analysis and Interpretation of a Standard" is on Wednesday, October 14th from 17.30 to 20.30. The second workshop "Jazz in Groups" ensemble will take place Thursday October 15th from 9.30 to 12.30 and from 17.30 to 20.00 and will feature the collaboration of a drummer Roberto Piero and bassist Principi Gazzani. For those who excel during the seminars, two will have the honor of performing during the "Kramer Project" concert by the Renzo Ruggeri Orchestra on Friday October 16th at the Teatro Astra. Others may be selected to perform for the "Via del Festival" as part of the Jazz, Blues & Wine event on the 14th to 16th October 2009 at 18.30 hours.  The European Patrimony Days organized by the MIBAC are taking place in Stradella.On Sunday 27th September, there is an exhibition of “The tradition of the reeds and the sumptuous Stradella sound of the accordion”. At 4 pm visit in the ancient Factory Dallapè – Via Mazzini 14/16 and opening of the exhibition and demonstration of some working process phases of tuning by local tuners. At 6 pm in the Sala “N. Brambilla” Centro Culturale – Via Montebello 2, the presentation of the video “The factory of harmonics”, a documentary by Agostina Lavagnino, Elisa Piria and Rossella Schillaci. |

| The 4th Prague Accordion Days are taking place in Prague,Czech Republic, from October 29 - November 1, 2009 The Club Tours Agentur Prague and the Czech Accordion Association are organizing this International Festival for harmonica and accordion ensembles and orchestras. The festival will be held in representative city rooms. Competition will be open to the public. Amateur ensembles, orchestras, accordion and harmonica friends from all over the world are welcome to this international music show. Categories: I. Accordion, Melodeon And Concertina Ensembles Ensembles of 4 – 11 musicians without conductor. These bands may also include other instruments, but accordions and harmonikas have to predominate.  ZAGREB WORLD MUSIC FESTIVAL NEBO on the 2nd of October /New Ethno Basic Options; nebo also means sky in Croatian/ is the festival of the traditional, ethno, folk and local or world music. It includes international and local world music performers. Guest from the accordion world this year: Martin LubenovZAGREB WORLD MUSIC FESTIVAL NEBO holds the concept of building more tolerant and human society through music. Therefore, intention of the Festival is to introduce different cultures and traditional music to Croatian audience. | The Facultad de Arquitectura ( Architecture School ) of the U.A.N.L. ( Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon ) has its "Semana Cultural " ( Cultural Week ) from Monday 28/sep to Friday 2/oct . José Valadez is invited to play a Gala Concert , on Thursday 1/oct at 7:00 P.M. at the Sala Polivalente from the Facultad de Arquitectura U.A.N.L.. The program includes the "Concerto Armonico" by Roberto Caberlotto, "Poet and Peasant" by Suppé, Hungarian Dance 5 by Brahms among others. All the pieces are played with an accordion-string ensemble.
