On Sunday 22nd September Castelfidardo City completed the very successful 150th Anniversary Celebrations and the 38th Festival and Competitions. The city was "alive" with accordion activities from morning until late each night, with festival events, seminars, displays, concerts and competitions making a huge array of exciting accordion activities and quality concerts, especially for the 4 days main days of the festival. 2013 Strumenti & Musica Festival: Accordion and Piano, Spoleto - Italyby Harley Jones |

![]() An important innovation of the 2013 festival is the addition of international piano competitions, with the new international piano categories "Muzio Clementi" and "Alfonso Rendano". The accordion competitions start on the 1st October with the Virtuoso Entertainment music, then concert categories and concluding with ensembles. An important innovation for 2013 is the organization of master classes at the highest level, for both accordion and piano, taught by the important tutors Alexander Selivanov (Russia, accordion) and Denis Chefanov (Russia, piano) plus tutors from Italy which at times combine both piano and accordion. As well as the competitions and masterclasses there are other pedagogical seminars plus three major concerts. - The accordion winners concert takes place at 9 pm Thursday 3rd October. - On Friday 4th October will be the concert of the piano and accordion students participating in the masterclasses along with tutors Alexander Selivanov (accordion) and Denis Chefanov (piano). - On Sunday 6th October at 9 pm, will be the Finale Concert of the winners of the competitions of both accordion and piano. XXIII City of Lanciano International Competition for Accordion Solo and Ensemble - Italyby Harley Jones |
![]() Organised by the City of Lanciano, Committee President Vladimir Zubitsky, Artistic Director Cesare Chiacchiaretta, Director Elena Evtikhovich and Secretary of Jury, Organiser Nikolaj Pretruk. The event runs from 25th September to 30th September evening finishing with a Gala Concert. Competitions are for all ages, solo (variete and classic), group, chamber music and orchestra categories plus many festival concerts. Thanks to Mirco Patarini, Artistic Director of Italian Accordion Culture (IAC) Italian member of the CIA, for taking me to visit the Lanciano Festival. The jury included professors and artists from Italy, Ukraine, Russia, Czech, Lithuania, Austria, Kazachstan, Hungary, Poland. View the group photo with many very well known professors/performers. Los Angeles, CA, September 20, 2013 - Roland Corporation U.S. is pleased to announce that Sergei Teleshev of Eugene, Oregon is the winner of the 2013 Roland U.S. V-Accordion Festival. The talent showcased by this year’s contestants was strong, and Roland applauds all who participated. As the U.S. Champion, Sergei advances to compete with regional winners from around the world during the 7th Roland International V-Accordion Festival, taking place in Italy on October 18 and 19, 2013. Sergei also received two prizes: a new FR-8x, Roland’s latest flagship V-Accordion, and a trip to the International festival in Rome. |

![]() Australian Accordionist Celebrates in Style Contributed by Lyn Conlon Australian Accordion Champion Bernadette Conlon celebrated her 21st birthday in style recently on the Yarra River in Melbourne. Hiring a charter boat for four hours revelers wined and dined the night away to the sounds of the accordion. The party included 10 accordionists, several pianists and vocalists, many of whom performed items from comedy acts to accordion recitals. Among the highlights were items by Pavel Sluka, Leo Rosner (from ‘Schindlers List’ fame), Jeannette Morrish, well known Piaf impersonator Robyn Pitt Owen (Sydney), Arnold Roe, and Tracey Harvey, television's funny girl. Guests travelled from Sweden, USA, and New Zealand as well as from various parts of Australia. |

![]() Featured bands include Grammy nominated Lisa Haley & the Zydekats, featuring accordionist Gee Rabe, who will also perform with Porterhouse Bob and Down to the Bone, an eight piece New Orleans influenced funk and rhythm and blues group. In addition to playing, Rabe will also offer a free lesson workshop for amateur diatonic button and piano accordion players, which means those with some playing experience. Rabe will be joined by Otono Lujan, also a teacher and accordionist for the band Conjunto Los Pochos. Los Fabulocos, also performing,will play music from their Mexican-American heritage, plus Zydeco, Conjunto, and Cumbia rhythms. The highly accomplished and versatile Cory Pesaturo, recent winner of several competitions, will perform as a solo accordionist. Other soloists include Peter Robuffo, Lou Fanucchi, Gordon Kohl, and Jim Gilman. The festival also features free zydeco dance lessons, an Accordion Road Show with Jeffrey Iacono, Borsini Accordions, Accordion Apocalypse accordion and accessory sales as well as free accordion repair and rebuild tips all day by Skyler Fell, mobile rock ‘n’ roll accordionist Bryan J, gourmet food trucks and free face painting. |

The Kilfenora Ceili Band perform in concert at The Lime Tree Theatre, Mary Immaculate College, Limerick, on Sunday September 29th, 8pm, at the Cos Cos Festival in Rathcormack, County Sligo. Founded in County Clare in 1909, the Kilfenora Ceili Band are the longest established ceili band in Ireland. A video promoting the 10th Belgrade Tango Festival, 1st to 3rd November in Serbia. The popular Beltango Quintet led by Aleksandar Nikolic (bandoneon, accordion), will provide the music and this year for the 10th anniversary, the organisers announce the participation of influential dancers, teachers, musicians and DJ’s who have contributed to the development of the Tango culture.
