World Premiere of Sonata No. 3 by Viatcheslav Semionov, Moscow – Russiaby Yulia Amerikova |
![]() On the 21st November was held the long awaited world premiere of Sonata No. 3 “Reminiscence of the Future” for solo accordion composed by Viatcheslav Semionov (picture left). The world premiere was heard at the Big Concert Hall of the Moscow House of Composers, and was part of the XXXV International Contemporary Music Festival "Moscow Autumn". Sonata No. 3 consists of 3 movements (Moderato, Andantino, Maestoso con Moto). The soulful lyrics of the 2nd movement are framed by a 1st movement filled with drama and intensity of development and a 3rd movement of multilayers of contrasting stylistic collage. In the 3rd movement, Viatcheslav Semionov has used the encrypted quote from Heinrich Heine: if “love lives in our souls – we are eternal ... “. The premiere was superbly performed by one of the greatest students of Viatcheslav Semionov, an outstanding musician who has received international acclaim, Honored Artist of Russia, Yuri Shishkin (picture lower left). The first performance of Sonata No. 3 was a huge success. The enthusiastic audience (it was full house concert) did not let the composer and performer leave the stage. This premiere is a significant event in the world of accordion art and another significant contribution to the accordion world by this famous composer. The second performance of Sonata No. 3 will be heard, 11th December at the 50-years anniversary concert of Yuri Shishkin, being part of the International Festival “Bayan and Bayanists” in Moscow. Famous compositions CD's and printed music are available online at: Viatcheslav Semionov For further information e-mail: semionov_slava@mail.ru, yulia.amerikova@gmail.com |

Mary Tokarski releases new Christmas CDby Kevin Friedrich |
![]() "March of the Toys and Parade of the Wooden Soldiers were childhood “favorites” of mine. On Thin Ice and Slippery Slope are representative of Connecticut winters (Can you imagine Santa Claus arriving on the ice, and sliding down that snowy, slippery slope?) What better way to enjoy the holidays than going over to the Shopping Center – everyone’s favorite pastime during the Christmas season. Moon River is from one of my favorite movies “Breakfast At Tiffany’s”, while Chopin’s Polonaise in A Major brings visions of grandeur to celebratory events and church services. The March from “The Nutcracker”, Ave Maria, O Holy Night, and Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas are typical for holiday listening. Tracks are as follows: 01. March of the Toys Victor Herbert 02. Moon River Henry Mancini 03. On Thin Ice John Gart 04. Let's Go Shopping (from Shopping Center Suite) Gary Daverne 05. In the Bookstore (from Shopping Center Suite) Gary Daverne 06. Super Market (from Shopping Center Suite) Gary Daverne 07. Coffee Shop (from Shopping Center Suite) Gary Daverne 08. Arcade (from Shopping Center Suite) Gary Daverne 09. March from "The Nutcracker" P. Tchaikovsky 10. Polonaise in A Major F. Chopin 11. Ave Maria J. S. Bach/Gounod 12. Parade of the Wodden Soldiers Leon Jessel 13. O Holy Night Adolphe Adam 14. I am a student at Durham University and am studying a module called ethnomusicology. My project over the next month is to do a detailed project on an instrument. I chose the accordion as I myself am an enthusiast but know little about it. I am asking for help in my research. If you have any information on: construction, symbolism, history, evolution, distribution, classification, ergonomics, acoustic properties. Any information at all. Please could you send me any information. You would really be helping out a student trying to advance his knowledge on the accordion. Many thanks, Cameron Crees |
