 Daily Reports of the Harbin 2010 China Summer International Accordion Art Week, August 7th to 10th, 2010, are now online on the Harbin 2010 website.This major international accordion festival including competitions has had enormous support from its sponsors and the organizing team headed by Professor Wang Hongyu, the Head of Keyboard department, Music College, Harbin Normal University. This is the first major accordion event held in Harbin and the great success of the event will no doubt encourage further major competition and festival events. Attending were many famous accordionists and you can read the detailed Daily Reports of the event and the competitions at Harbin 2010. |

 The prestigious Coupe Mondiale international competition for accordion soloists is to be hosted for the first time in October 2010 in Croatia with musical guests/performers from the four corners of the world. The CIA Coupe Mondiale, recognized as the most prestigious annual accordion competition of international scope, takes place in a different country every year, under the auspices of the Conféderation Internationale des Accordeonistes. Be part of this great event, as a competitor, with the closing date for entries set as 10th September 2010 – have you completed your entry submission? As a visitor, have you submitted your online submission to participate in the CIA World Orchestra (online soon)? Have you made your hotel reservation? Highlights of the Coupe Mondiale week include: - Five days of accordion entertainment, competitions and concerts. - Performance of the CIA World Accordion Orchestra. - Instrument Trade exhibits. - A series of social receptions with lots of entertainment. | On July 25, 2010 in Pineto, Italy, were announced the Orpheus Awards for 2010. This is an annual award that involves music critics who vote for the best Italian accordion productions of the year in four different categories: 1. Classical, 2. Jazz, 3. World Music and 4. Award for Lifetime Career Achievement. Winners Best CD for classic music Claudio Jacomucci, Johann Sebastian Bach, Blowout Records Best CD for jazz music Renzo Ruggieri, Collection, APA records (also available on MusicForAccordion.com) Best World Music CD Mario D'Amario, Carnevale, APA records (also available on MusicForAccordion.com) Lifetime Career Achievement Award Gorni Kramer The jury consisted of: Furfaro Amedeo (Italy), Flavio Caprera (Italy), Alessandro Pierotti (Italy), Fabio Chimney (Italy), Guido Michelone (Italy), Antongiulio Zimarino (Italy), Kimmo Mattila (Finland), Ulrich Schmülling (Germany), Livio Bollani (Italy), Paolo Picchio (Italy), Matteo Piludu Vesa (Finland, Italy), Davide Fabrizi (Italy). | The Paris Moscou Duo (Domi Emorine & Roman Jbanov) has had a busy summer of concerts and courses. After the concerts to Saint Genis Pouilly, Port-Barcares, le Mont-Dore, Murol, Clermont Ferrand and the international festival of accordion in Lorraine, the Paris Moscou Duo had a training course during the international music academy, organized by the Music Festival of Dores. The training course took place in La Bourboule, in the multiple rooms of the Casino. Some 14 trainees of from different regions of France and Switzerland came to improve their mastery of the accordion and expand their own talent in the musical expression. During the 6 days training course, the students of all ages and levels had 2 individual lessons each day with Domi and Roman and meanwhile they worked each in different rooms, to put into practice the current given advice. By looking all together at the video of the first one and of the last day, everybody realized the large progress! The atmosphere was very friendly because they shared all their meals together to the hotel Florence... They were also lucky to assist the other concerts every evening what allows them to enrich horizons already acquired with their respective teachers. The 1st evening of the training course, the pupils were able to assist the concert of the Paris Moscou Duo, and to finish the training course, Domi and Roman left them the place on stage where they interpreted the piece worked during week. Vivant! Rocks St. Louis and the M.A.M.A.by Harley Jones |
 Vivant! provided an exciting concert recently while performing as Guest Artists for the 54th Annual Mid-America Music Association Competitions in St. Louis, MO. The group rocked out on blues and new pop arrangements written especially for the 1500+ young musicians entered in this year's competition. The Marriott's grand ballroom was packed to capacity as the lights dimmed and Vivant! took the stage. Vivant! was received with great enthusiasm, with the audience waving their lighted cell phones and clapping and dancing with the beat. It was a thrilling and fun time for all. Many contestants remarked that they didn't know that accordions could sound like that! Vivant! includes Julie Silfverberg and Karen Fremar on accordion and keyboards, Gail Overly on accordion, Dee Sligar on bass, Janne Silfverberg on trombone and Latin percussion, and Sarrah Cantrell on drums. |
Paulo Jorge Ferreira Concert Performance, Lisbon - Portugalby Harley Jones |
 On the 17th July, Paulo Jorge Ferreira performed the concerto de Verao composed by P. P. Koprowski. The conductor of the Orquestra de Câmara was Nikolay Lalov. Paulo Jorge Ferreira lectures in the Applied Arts Superior School in Castelo Branco, in Castelo Branco Regional Conservatory, in D.Dinis Conservatory in Odivelas and in National Conservatory in Lisbon. He released the CD Percursos which is available online and has been invited as a guest musician by many symphony and chamber orchestras.  Kimmo Pohjonen’s Haitaripainia / Accordion Wrestling will take place in Tampere, Finland on Aug 19 - 22. The performance, featuring Pohjonen and ten Finnish wrestlers, is a revival of Finnish wrestling tradition from early to mid-1900s where accordion was included as musical accompaniment for wrestling matches. The first performances were in Turku and Helsinki in April and will continue to Stockholm in December 2010. The performance concept will be expanded to a larger scale with band and string quartet for the Turku Cultural Capital 2011 events. Critics write: “The Accordion wrestling show is not only an impressive way of combining sports and culture - this highly physical spectacle is a powerful mixture of theatre, dance and music.
